For a long time, they focused on Israels military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. As problematic and significant as the occupation is, it fails to capture the breadth of what lasting peace and justice require. The discourse of ending the occupation does not address the refugees stemming from 1948 and 1967, discrimination against the one million Palestinian citizens of Israel, water access rights, the Golan Heights, and the future of Jerusalem. One term that captures Israels ethno-religious supremacy, as well as its infrastructure of segregation against the Palestinians, is apartheid. It captures Israels essence. Like apartheid South Africa, Israel is a regional rogue that shows no regard for the sovereignty of the surrounding states, nor the people whose land it took.
Stocks Hold Gains After Fed Minutes
It's been a topsy-turvy day, with stocks sliding at the open after the CPI report, then rebounding in the afternoon as investors toggled their focus to H-P's better-than-expected results. The telecom sector, however, remained firmly in the red amid concerns about a price war. "The Dow is going up because people are seeing through the rest of the year," Brett D'arcy, director of investments at CBIZ Financial Solutions, told CNBC. After H-P's encouraging results, investors are realizing things aren't all bad, he said. But what about that pesky $100 oil? "Oil in my opinion is a speculative bubble," D'arcy said, adding that there really isn't much relation between oil and the stock market. .

POWER TRANSFER Economic Reckoning Looms In Argentina's Election
Shell's problems started in 2005 when it raised pump prices in line with rising international oil prices. Mr. Kirchner immediately used his bully pulpit to call for a boycott of Shell, urging Argentines to refrain from buying "even a can of oil." The company quickly rescinded a gasoline price increase after pro-government protestors marched on its service stations. Things got hotter for Shell last December when the government accused it of failing to stock sufficient supplies of diesel fuel. Using the 1974 antihoarding law promulgated under Mr. Perón, Mr. Moreno has levied fines of almost $20 million against the company and sought jail time for the company's local president, an Argentine citizen. Shell, which says it did nothing wrong and is contesting the charges in an Argentine court, maintains it is being singled out for harsh treatment.

This year, gold could soar well above $1,000. The most exciting phase of the gold market is ahead. Gold still is cheap. Historically, the average Dow [industrials]-to-gold ratio was about 10 to 1. Now it's 15 to 1. Demand from ETFs is helping drive up prices. These funds now hold more than 865 tons of gold, up 34% from a year ago, and there are more ETFs coming online, including one sponsored by the State Bank of India. India is the biggest end-market for gold. On the supply side, mine production remains weak. South African production has been halved in the past 10 years. Political, environmental and economic issues, plus rising production costs, have kept supply growth down. Gross: What is the long-term real return on gold? Investors are always fascinated as it moves up 5% or 10%, but you never get any income.
